West of West Point Melodrama Tryouts
May 1 all-day

Try-outs will be held for the melodrama “West Of West Point” on Monday May1st from 7-9pm at the West Point Community Theatre. This is a sequel to the melodrama, “North of West Point” which was performed for West Point’s sesquicentennial celebration in 2008.

Performance dates will be several times on July 4th and possibly during the Cuming County Fair. There are roles for 5 females and 6 males.

Director will be Gloria Wellman with assistant director, Marlene Wiechman. If you are interested in trying out but unable to attend either dates, please contact Gloria at 402-372-8727. Rehearsals will begin on May 4 at the West Point Community Theatre.

Relay For Life Cancer Kickers Taco Night Monday, May 1st from 5pm to 7pm at the Oakland Methodist Church basement in Oakland. $7 suggested donation. Meal includes chips, salsa, refried beans, three tacos (hard of soft) or a taco salad in a tortilla shell, beef or chicken with toppings, dessert and a drink.

Charlotte Endorf “Excess Baggage: The Orphan Train” Program

Sunshine Center will be hosting Charlotte Endorf presenting a program titled ” Excess Baggage: The Orphan Train” Monday, May 8th at 1pm at Sunshine Center in West Point. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Tells of orphans who rode the trains west from 1854 – 1929 . Dresses in period attire. Presentation is suitable for all ages.

Humanities Nebraska provides major funding for this program. Humanities Nebraska receives support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Nebraska State Legislature, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment and private donations.

Goodwill Donation Drive Friday, May 12th to Friday, May 19th at 502 Main Street in Bancroft. They accept good clean usable clothing, shoes, house wares, and small furniture, books, cd’s & videos, collectibles, toys, electronics in working condition and computer accessories.
They accept for recycling dry clothing in any condition, computers & accessories, cell phones in need of repair, all used ink cartridges, metals, books, shoes, purses, belts, kitchen utensils, soft toys, paper: newspaper and magazines, cardboard.
They do not accept large appliances, paint, chemicals, used oil, air conditioners, large furniture or furniture needing repair, tvs, tires, box springs, mattresses and encyclopedias.

Please carry all items as far to the front of the trailer as possible. Leave room at back of the trailer for the stairs to be loaded. Do not leave items outside of the trailer, they will not be picked up.
