Indie Lens Pop Up “Charm City” Monday, April 15th at 6:30 pm at the West Point Community Theatre in West Point. Admission is free.

Filmed during three years of unparalleled violence in Baltimore,
Charm City delivers a powerfully candid portrait of those on the
frontlines. According to the director/producer, Marilyn Ness, “the
reality is that everyone becomes less safe when police and
citizens cannot overcome decades-long distrust and despair.
We are seeing this in cities across America, including Baltimore,
Chicago and St. Louis, as homocides and gun violence climb at
a shocking pace. Unless we tackle the complexity of these
issues, many of which have long been neglected in polite
conversation, we will never get to the heart of what spurs
violence and trauma in our cities.
Our intent with this film is to build empathy where there is now
opposition, in order to open a long needed national
conversation in which everyone can feel safe enough to
participate.”
Many of the volunteers with Baltimore’s ‘Safe Streets’ program
have been locked up for murder, drug use and drug dealing, but
have turned their lives around to go back into the
neighborhoods working to make changes.
